New measures to combat COVID-19

According to the decision taken by the Federal and Länder Governments, from 2 November hotels and other accommodation providers may only provide overnight accommodation to people whose travel is essential. It is no longer permitted to provide overnight accommodation for tourism purposes. Visas for tourism purposes will thus only be issued in exceptional cases. The Länder are responsible for implementing this decision. Whether a specific journey is possible thus depends on the rules of the Land to which you wish to travel. Processing of visa applications

Visas can currently only be issued if the intended entry is absolutely necessary. The circumstances under which entry is considered to be absolutely necessary are explained on the website of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community under the heading Coronavirus – FAQs and answers, and then under “Travel restrictions/border control”.
