The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Yangon is looking for a (full time)
Press and Protocol Officer starting in June 2026 (negotiable)

What will you be doing?

  • Proactive monitoring of print, online and social media in Myanmar; identification of pertinent articles/analyses on Myanmar by relevant international news outlets
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of the Embassy’s communications/social media strategy and maintaining a content calendar
  • Proactive creation of target group sensitive content for the Embassy’s social media platforms, incl. both text and image/video production
  • Considerate and timely administration of online content (upload, feedback monitoring)
  • Communication and relationship-building with media stakeholders in Myanmar and beyond
  • Coordination of protocol affairs with Myanmar authorities and other diplomatic missions, e.g. preparing diplomatic notes, obtaining travel authorizations, facilitating administrative procedures
  • Organizing professional missions of Embassy staff in Myanmar and beyond, including responsibility for travel arrangements, assisting with the coordination of meetings, liaising with service providers etc.
  • Assisting with the organization of different types of events such as national day celebrations, commemorative events, working lunches/dinners etc.

Our ideal candidate shows:

  • Sound understanding of Myanmar’s political and administrative environment, media landscape and civil society
  • Profound interest and skills in social media/content production, incl. experience with content creation and image/video editing tools
  • Substantial professional experience in a communications/media environment; experience specifically as a press/communications officer in a political/diplomatic context would be a strong asset
  • Previous experience in a protocol role, delivering events or managing logistical arrangements would be a strong asset
  • Proven networking skills and experience in communication with official authorities; an existing network in the press/communications field and/or protocol sector would be a string asset
  • Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and ability to work independently
  • Professional, diplomatic demeanor and tactfulness
  • An excellent command of English (both orally and written; equivalent to C1-level in the European Framework)
  • Ideally, a good command (or at least, understanding) of German
  • A native speaker command of Burmese

Education

  • University degree, preferably a graduate degree in journalism, public relations, political science or languages

Employment Conditions:

  • A contract according to local labor law, initially for the duration of one year (with the perspective of prolongation into a permanent position)

  • Language certificates
  • Service certificates of previous employments
  • The names and contact details of two references
