Theo Kidess, born in Düsseldorf in 1962, studied law in Munich. After his legal clerkship, second state examination and a short period of working in a law firm, he joined the German Foreign Service in 1992.

Theo Kidess worked at Germany’s missions abroad in Hong Kong, London, Phnom Penh and Beijing. In Yangon, he already had an assignment as Permanent Representative of the Ambassador from 2013 to 2015. At the headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office, Theo Kidess worked in the European Department as well as Political Departments 2 and 3 Asia/Pacific. Before taking up his post in Yangon as Head of Mission on August 18, 2023, he was most recently Director for Asia and Africa in the Office of the Federal President in Berlin.

Theo Kidess is married and has one daughter.
