The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Yangon is looking for

a Press officer and Politics researcher (full time)

starting date 15 of January 2024 (negotiable)

Job Description

• proactive management/content creation for social media channels of the Embassy, incl. editing of short videos and pictures, feedback monitoring
• proactive monitoring of print, online and social media in Myanmar; identification of pertinent articles/analyses on Myanmar by relevant international news outlets
• daily compilation of a structured news and media summary
• in depth political analysis of (inter-)national actors, processes and dynamics in Myanmar
• in depth research on individual topics, e.g. German-Myanmar relations, Burmese politics, policies, institutions and history
• engaging communication and relationship-building with (inter-) national political and media stakeholders in Myanmar, incl. coordination of meetings
• translations (English to Burmese) for the press and political sections

Requirements

• sound understanding of Myanmar’s political, social, media and economic environment
• profound interest in social media
• experience with computer programs (Outlook, Word, Excel), video and photo editing as well as the advanced use of social media platforms
• polite and considerate manners
• proven networking skills and experience in communication with official authorities
• very good command of English (both orally and in written)
• native speaker command of Burmese
• good command of German (both orally and in written) would be an asset

Education

• university degree, preferably a graduate in journalism, public relations or political science

Conditions:

• contract according to local labor law
• contract for one year (with the perspective of prolongation)
